DOOR TO HELL


         
         Karakum desert is located in Turkmenistan. kara-kum is a village close to the village Darvaza (derweze). These holes 60-70 meters in diameter. The villagers refer to this hole as a "door to hell". Because inside the hole there are flames so bright like the fire of hell.
Actually, is due to a fire pit in the desert karakum drilling in 1971.
The geology was surprised when they dig this hole at a depth of 300 feet, it turns out this hole with contain natural gas. They decided to burn natural gas so that gas is not spread to nearby villages, and causing disease to the population. They are expecting the fire burning for weeks. But it turns out, the fire is still burning brightly after 40 years later. at night, light the fire seems to be a picture of hell. Therefore, this place is called "door to hell". The tourists who come to see directly, it is advisable to carry a gas mask, because there are quite strong sulfuric odor.
